The Dr. Suess book that I chose to read and use was The Cat in The Hat. While going through this book I realized all the rhyming words that were in it and how great this book could be to help teach about different rhymes. I went online to look up some ideas for rhyming activities and found this great one on pinterest related directly to The Cat in the Hat. For this activity, the students create a cat with a very tall hat, just like the hat from the story. Inside of the hat on each stripe, they can place all the words they can think of that rhyme with hat, with a little drawing of whatever the word is next to it. This becomes their “-at hat”. This project gives students the opportunity to practice their rhyming while having fun and creating their own Cat in the Hat.
